Most access control deployments stop at the lobby. The logic is understandable — that’s where the threat enters. But a visitor who passes the lobby check can ride to any floor, knock on any door, and access any common area.
In multifamily buildings, this is a resident safety issue. In commercial towers, it’s a tenant liability issue. In mixed-use developments, it’s both — compounded by the fact that retail customers, office tenants, and residents all use the same elevators.
